The Seattle Mariners 3 to 2 win over the Minnesota Twins last night, dropped
the Twins 2 games behind the Chicago White Sox in the A.L. Central race.
Jeff Clement returned to the Mariner line-up for the first time since last Friday.
Jeff's single up the middle drove in the 1st two Mariner runs. He has raised
his average to .227.
Instant Replay begins as a tool for umpiring crews with game scheduled
tomorrow in Major League Baseball. Commissioner Bud Selig made the
announcement yesterday. Its purpose is to assist umpires in determing
questionable boundary calls...ie..homers..fair/foul balls..fan interference.
It might take away some umpire-manager discussions, a long time fan
favorite sidelight to baseball games.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Shawn Johnson's hometown welcomed her
back Tuesday night with a reported crowd of about 7,000 at the
Wells Fargo Arena.
The gymnast with the ever-present smile took one gold and three
silver medals at the Beijing Olympics this month.
Johnson says the best part of the Olympics was meeting the other
athletes, an experience she says anybody would kill for.
Johnson was asked repeatedly about her prospects for the 2012
London Olympics. Her coach Liang Chow says she will take some time
off before considering her next step, but he says, "We would like
more Olympics."
Johnson is scheduled to begin a 40-city gymnastics tour next
week.
IOWA-OPENER
Christensen, Greene to start for Hawks
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says that running
back Nate Guillory has left school and intends to transfer.
Guillory was expected to compete for a starting job. Ferentz
said Tuesday that Guillory made the decision to transfer over the
weekend, but did not elaborate on why Guillory has left the
program.
Iowa has filled two high-profile starting jobs, as quarterback
Jake Christensen and running back Shonn Greene will start
Saturday's season opener against Maine.
Tight end Tony Moeaki will miss the game as he continues to
recover from a foot injury. Offensive lineman Dan Doering and wide
receiver Trey Stross will also sit out with injuries.
The Iowa State Cyclones open their 2008 season tomorrow night
as they host South Dakota State University.
Drake opens its season at home tomorrow night, hosting Division
Two opponenet, Upper Iowa.
