AMES, Iowa (AP) - Iowa State coach Gene Chizik isn't too worried
about the Cyclones overlooking South Dakota State in Thursday's
season opener. Chizik says he knows just what to say if his team
thinks it can take the upstart Jackrabbits lightly.

The Panthers thumped Iowa State at home last season. So when
Chizik talks up South Dakota State, which will travel to Ames for
its first-ever game against a Bowl Subdivision program since
joining the Championship Subdivision, the Cyclones are all ears.
After all, they've got a lot to prove themselves. The Cyclones
were 3-9 last season. They must replace quarterback Bret Meyer,
among others.
Sophomore Austen Arnaud will start at quarterback against South
Dakota State.

Olympian Johnson to lead pledge at DNC convention
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Barack Obama's presidential campaign has
announced that Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson will lead the Pledge
of Allegiance at the Democratic National Convention on Thursday.
Obama is expected to give his acceptance speech Thursday night
at Invesco Field in Denver.
Johnson, 16, won four medals at the Olympics in Beijing,
including a gold in the women's balance beam competition.
She begins a 40-city gymnastics tour next week.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The seesaw race in the National League East
now has the New York Mets back on top. The Mets rallied with four
runs in the eighth inning and beat Philadelphia 6-3 to take a
half-game lead over the Phils.
UNDATED (AP) - Arizona retains its three-game lead over the L.A.
Dodgers in the National League West, after both teams lost
yesterday. The D-Backs lost to San Diego 5-4 for their fifth loss
in six games while the Dodgers were dropping their sixth straight
game, 5-4 at Washington.
PHIALADELPHIA (AP) - Daniel Murphy hit a tiebreaking double
after Carlos Delgado's second solo homer had tied the game in the
eighth and the New York Mets beat Philadelphia 6-3 to reclaim first
place in the NL East. Ryan Howard hit a two-run homer and Jayson
Werth homered for the Phillies, who fell a half-game behind the
Mets in the division.
BALTIMORE (AP) - Brian Roberts drove in three runs and Baltimore
ended a five-game losing streak by defeating the Chicago White Sox
11-3. Counting Minnesota's 6-5 win over Seattle, the Twins cut the
White Sox's lead in the AL Central to one game.
ST. LOUIS (AP) - After suffering a 12-0 loss to Milwaukee in the
series opener Tuesday night, the St. Louis Cardinals rallied with
four runs in the bottom of the eighth to beat the Brewers 5-3. That
moves the Cardinals within three and a-half games of Milwaukee in
the NL wild card.
NEW YORK (AP) - Jelena Jankovic (yeh-LAY'-nah YANK'-uh-vich),
the second seed at the U.S. Open, held off Sweden's Sofia Arvidsson
6-3, 6-7, 7-5 to advance to the third round of the U.S. Open.
Former U.S. Open women's champion Lindsay Davenport won her night
match by beating the 23rd seed Alisa Kleybanova 7-5, 6-3.

colors on its Web site next Wednesday and the names that have been
trademarked for the former Seattle franchise include Thunder,
