   DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - A group charged with the task of coming
up with a long-term plan to rebuild Iowa after severe storms and
flooding is meeting at the Statehouse for the first time today. The
governor's Rebuild Iowa Advisory Commission is to report to
Governor Culver by November 1st.
 
     CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) - FEMA trailers are in place in Cedar
Rapids -- and more are on the way. Eighty-five mobile homes are now
being lived in, Another 257 trailers are being readied for families
who lost their homes in last month's flooding.

 DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Principal Financial Group is launching an
Islamic asset management business with a company in Malaysia. The
Des Moines-based financial company says the new business will offer
global funds management and retirement services.
 
 NEVADA, Iowa (AP) - Sentencing is set for August 15 for a man
accused of killing 41 of his neighbor's hogs last March near
Collins in central Iowa. Jonathon Wright pleaded guilty this week
to second-degree criminal mischief.


     CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) - Owners of flood-damaged property in
Johnson and Linn counties probably won't get a break on their
property taxes this year. By law, only county supervisors can
authorize a tax abatement, or refund, for someone whose property
was damaged by fire or natural disaster.
 
     WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) - Residents of a Waterloo neighborhood
ruined by flooding are taking stock of the losses again. Thieves
hit homes on Sans Souci (SOO'-cee) Island, stealing thousands of
dollars worth of items from garages. Police believe the burglars
slipped in late Sunday.
 
     COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) - A judge has revoked the deferred
judgment of a Council Bluffs woman convicted of assaulting a school
board member in 2006. This week's decision comes after Joyce
Farrington was convicted of harassing another school board member
last summer.
 
  CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) - Some Cedar Rapids residents who lost
their homes in the flooding have a new place to call home. They've
moved into 85 FEMA trailers set up in mobile home parks around the
city. Another 257 trailers will soon be ready.
 
     DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Some Des Moines business owners whose
properties were flooded in a levee break last month are grumbling.
They want to know when they can expect financial help, while some
claim city leaders misled them about the levee's ability to protect
them.
 
     MELVIN, Iowa (AP) - A farm chemical spill in Osceola County in
northwest Iowa has killed some fish. Officials say the spill
happened Tuesday night near Melvin when a sprayer fell into a
creek, dumping a mix of insecticide and herbicide. The stream
empties into the Floyd River.
