DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - An $8.9 million tentative settlement has
been reached with nearly all the TouchPlay operators that sued the
state over the machines now banned in Iowa. The settlement provides
for payment to 32 of the 33 TouchPlay operators involved in the
lawsuit against the state. A manufacturer and distributor also
continue to pursue the litigation.
MAQUOKETA, Iowa (AP) - Authorities have rescued a Wisconsin
teenager who got stuck in a cavern at Maquoketa Caves State Park in
eastern Iowa. The 16-year-old boy suffered minor injuries.
Authorities say rescue personnel had to use an air chisel to free
the teen.
WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) - A new chief judge has been appointed for
Iowa's First Judicial District. District Court Judge Jon Fister, of
Waterloo, succeeds Judge Alan Pearson who retires at the end of
this month.
OTTUMWA, Iowa (AP) - Agents have arrested nine people on drug
charges after a year-long investigation of two Ottumwa bars. The
U.S. attorney's office says eight people were arrested in Ottumwa
and one was arrested in St. Louis. All face federal charges of
cocaine distribution.
