IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - Iowa City says it won't be banning plastic grocery bags any time soon.
The city's council members said during a work session Tuesday night that they will not pursue the issue. Some members say a ban may be impractical because the bags are so cheap and ubiquitous.
Council members say the city should continue to push reusable tote bags and other recycling options.
The decision comes despite a recent push for a ban by the 100 Grannies for a Livable Future. Its members mostly are older women interested in environmental issues.
