Marshalltown Council Supports Common Bond Downtown Housing
The Marshalltown City Council Monday night approved a letter of support for the Common Bond Communities converting the Tall Corn Towers into 49 low-income residential units. Common Bond will be applying to the Iowa Finance Authority for funding help for the $9.7 million dollar project. The application deadline is early February.
Part of the application would include the Susie Sower Park as greenspace. The Park is currently owned by the city. Should the IFA grant be approved, the Park would be transferred to Common Bond for $100. The Park would still be accessible to the general public for use.
Common Bond representative Cynthia Lee says that Park arrangement would be o.k. with them. As they already have developed plans to improve the park.
Marshalltown attorney Curt Ward told the council he had spoken with the Historical Society about the possible transfer, and the stipulations the park would be kept green space.
The transfer of the Park would become firm, if Common Bond’s application is approved by the Iowa Finance Authority.
