Three teams from Marshalltown, all named Iowa Glory, captured all the titles at the 23rd annual boys’ Marshalltown Optimist Basketball Invitational (MOBI) Saturday at the Miller and Lenihan school gyms.
The sixth grade Iowa Glory coach by Jeff Arment and Matt Streeter, won all four games in round-robin play to claim the sixth grade championship. Second place went to the Grinnell Tigers whose final record was 3-1.
The seventh grade championship game pitted rivals Iowa Glory and the Su Hawks of Ankeny. The game was not decided until a second overtime in sudden death. The seventh grade Iowa Glory is coached by Todd Kluver,
The Iowa Glory eighth graders coached by Mark Hauser won their title by defeating the Cedar Rapids Jane Boyd Bad Boys 51-38. The eighth graders had to battle back in the loser’s bracket as they were defeated by the Bad Boys in pool play.
A total of 19 teams played in this year’s boys’ MOBI with excellent crowds at all sessions.
