Because of poor gravel road conditions , a number of area schools will be running their bus routes on hard surface roads until further notice.
Marshalltown, East Marshall, Gladbrook Reinbeck, Colo Nesco, Nevada, Grinnell Newburg and Collins Maxwell are several who will run on hard surface roads.
The official route for this summer's Des Moines Register Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa was released this weekend. Following an overnight stop in Ames on July 22nd, riders will follow the Old Lincoln Highway route as they head east to an overnight stop in Tama Toledo. Riders will go through Nevada..Colo...State Center...Marietta...Albion...Green Mountain...Le Grand and Montour.

re-election bid today in his hometown of Cumming. The 68-year-old
Iowa Democrat is running for his fifth term in office, seeking to

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Iowa lawmakers face a full slate of
issues this week as they take up some of the bills that survived
the first legislative deadline. Top among them are health care, a
revamped bottle bill and a statewide smoking ban in most public

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) - Three men -two current and one former
Northern Iowa football players - are facing rioting charges after
police broke up a disturbance in Cedar Falls over the weekend. The
men were taken into custody at a rental hall early yesterday.
Authorities say two Cedar Falls police officers were injured in the
fight.
MONTICELLO, Iowa (AP) - Officials say a fire that damaged a
Monticello church on Saturday was intentionally set. Fire Chief
Mark Stoneking says the state fire marshal's office has ruled the
fire was arson. The investigation is continuing.
MUSCATINE, Iowa (AP) - The trial of a man accused in the death
of a pregnant Muscatine woman in 2006 is set to start today. Victor
Serrato is charged with first-degree murder and nonconsensual
termination of a pregnancy. The body of Miriam Carmona was found in
Illinois near a bridge across the Mississippi River.
LE MARS, Iowa (AP) - Wells' Dairy workers are set to decide
today and tomorrow on whether to cut their pay and perks by $5
million. The Le Mars-based company and an employee bargaining group
reached a tentative deal last week. Company spokesman Dave Smetter
says hourly workers will vote on whether to ratify it.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - A Los Angeles filmmaker plans to make a
movie called "South Dakota" here in Iowa. Bruce Isacson chose the
town of Earlham -- just west of Des Moines -- as the setting for
his flick about a couple of high school students who end up with a
surprise pregnancy.
