     DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - A coalition of consumer and labor groups is calling on lawmakers to cut more than $50 million in state spending on business tax credits. Members of Coalition for a Better Iowa argue that as lawmakers look to cover a budget shortfall, they should reduce the business tax credits and protect funding for services that help people in need.

     DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Gov. Chet Culver says 35 communities will receive an estimated $12.4 million in Community Development Block Grant money. The awards are available through the Community Facilities and Services Fund and the Water/Sewer Fund. The money will pay for a variety of projects and activities primarily benefiting low- and moderate-income residents.
    
     CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) - Cedar Falls authorities report several houses were damaged when a homemade bomb made with pellets and black powder was detonated in a mailbox. Authorities say the explosion sent shrapnel through the neighborhood, causing siding, window or garage door damage. Several parked vehicles were also damaged.
