Celebrate Singing Choral Festival in Ames

The Celebrate Singing Choral Festival (CSCF) will be held at Ames Middle School on Friday, April 16, at 7:00 pm.  This festival will feature youth choruses from Ames, Cedar Falls, Fort Dodge, and Ogden.  All choirs will perform two selections individually and then join forces for the CSCF Mass Choir.  Noted composer Carolyn Jennings has been commissioned to write “Winter vs. Spring: Fight of the Year” to be premiered by the Mass Choir.  It is interesting to note that Carolyn Jennings is a native Iowan born and raised in Story City who then moved to Ames and graduated from Ames High School.  She has degrees from the University of Iowa and the University of Michigan and taught at St. Olaf College.

The following youth choruses will perform in the festival:  Chorale ~ Ames Children’s Choirs (Sylvia Munsen and Misty Renze, co-conductors), Fair Oaks Middle School, Fort Dodge (Leslie Anne Reetz, conductor), Fellows Elementary School, Ames (Cynthia Marten, conductor), Northern Iowa Children’s Choir, Cedar Falls (Michelle Swanson, conductor), Ogden Middle School, Ogden (Jill Friend, conductor) and Sawyer Elementary School, Ames (Barbara Evenson, conductor).

The festival is being co-sponsored by the Ames Children’s Choirs, the Ames Community Schools, and the Ames Council on the Arts, with support by the Ames Community Grant Program.
